Welcome to CrossCheck, and to a growing community of scholarly publishers who are taking steps to ensure that content they

publish is original and trustworthy. There are two parts to CrossCheck: a database of scholarly content against which you can screen manuscripts, and software that does the screening. Instructions on how to enable your content for indexing can be found here. Once indexing is underway you will be set up with an account to start screening documents for plagiarism. Manuscript checking is done using iThenticate, a proven web-based technology from our partner iParadigms, who created the Turnitin system that is widely used in schools and colleges around the world. If you havent already done so, please sign up to attend one of our online iThenticate demos, which will give you a tour of the system and the reports available. Webinar dates are listed on the CrossCheck web page. The iThenticate system allows you to upload one or multiple documents in various formats to be analyzed and compared against millions of publications and web pages. A list of publications from CrossCheck members that have been indexed is available on our website. A comprehensive user manual for the iThenticate system is also available to download from the iThenticate home page. It is important to note that CrossCheck alone cannot detect plagiarism. The iThenticate system provides sophisticated text analysis and comparison, but matching text does not always equate to plagiarized text. There are legitimate reasons why text might be similar in two works, and it takes a human with domain expertise to make a judgment on whether plagiarism has occurred. For advice on dealing with plagiarism you may find the flowcharts produced by the Committee on Publication Ethics useful. As a CrossCheck member you are invited to join and participate in the CrossCheck Users email discussion list. The list is intended as a forum for users to exchange ideas and ask questions about plagiarism, plagiarism detection and the CrossCheck service. Extended information on all of the above is available on the CrossRef website. We look forward to working with you.
