Distribution

Give a share or a unit of (something) to each of a number of recipients. "Information leaflets are being distributed to hotels" The distribution processes are different depending if the film company is independent or conglomerate. The marketing budget is decided at the beginning of the process to work out how much money they can spend on distributing it. The budget is estimated by how much the predicted box- office sales for the film would be. They would need to look at the cast and crew of the film, the time of release, the certification, audience research and estimated rentals. They would do this by identifying the audience. The success of the film is based on the box office figures. The figures are based on the number of people who pay to see a particular film. US box figures are provided to estimate of what it could be in the UK. They would need to consider why people would need to go see it. Exhibitors rent a print of a film in order to screen it in their cinema. The money which the distributor estimates will determine the overall budget as it helps estimate box office receipts. The distributors persuade the exhibitors to play the film in order to produce a profit. The distributors would arrange a test screening before they release the film. They chose a variety of the population such as old, young, men and women. They then hand out questionnaires in order to get feedback.
