October 30,2013 University of Utah Honors College Attn: Jennifer Ziarko 1975 DeTrobriand Street Bldg 619, Fort

Douglas Salt Lake City, UT 84113 Dear Ms. Ziarko: I am pleased to have this opportunity to recommend Lisa Nehring for the University of Utah Honors College. I have known Lisa for two years while she has been enrolled at the Academy for Math, Engineering & Science (AMES). As a teacher at AMES, I've had the opportunity to know Lisa both as a student in my College Prep Language Arts class and as a bright and promising young woman. The Academy for Math, Engineering & Science is a public charter high school housed inside a traditional comprehensive high school. AMES is also an Early College High School (ECHS); our focus is preparing students not only for admittance to college, but for success in college. As an AMES student, Lisa has been required to complete a more rigorous course of study than the students in the surrounding traditional high school, with more required hours and courses to graduate, as well as a required internship. Lisa served her internship during the summer of2012 with Bad Dog Arts as a digital photography apprentice. Lisa is a diligent worker and a curious learner, tackling difficult classes and maintaining admirable grades while working nearly full-time at a local bakery. Her challenging schedule of classes this year includes U of U Chemistry 1210/1220 and Writing 1010/2010 as well as AP Calculus. I have no doubt she will continue to achieve the high standard she sets for herself. Lisa would be an asset to the Honors College and it seems a very good fit for her. I recommend her highly for consideration and know she will be successful wherever she decides to attend college.
