Android VS IOS

Recent smartphone market scenario is dominated by two well-known giants in technology namely Google Inc. and Apple Inc. The Operating System which is used in these smartphones is no more untouched in the rivalry between these two companies. Apple Inc. since its establishment has left a mark of quality gadgets, Operating System and Apps. It developed a mobile Operating System known as IOS in June 2007 which is used to power its latest products iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. IOS is designed such that it only runs on Apple hardware. There are now ways to make it work on non-Apple hardware. It was built in OS X family using C, C++ and Objective. It is not customizable unless jail broken. Recent scenario in Smartphone market shows that IOS covers 15% of Smartphone and 87% of tablets in North America. On the other hand, Googles Android being younger than IOS in its release, is rapidly capturing the worldwide market of Smartphone powering Operating System. It was released in September 2008 and is well backed up by many developers as it is open-source. The language used to develop Android was C, C++ and Java and supported by Linux Kernel. It can run on hardware of any platforms and is easily customizable to large extent. It has occupied 75% shares in Smartphone and 3.7% shares in tablets as is evidenced in North America. In conclusion, there are various perspectives to observe the pros and cons of these two Operating Systems. User may not perceive what developers of these OS perceive and developer may not perceive what user may perceive. Apps developer for IOS finds easy due to availability of Xcode whereas developing Android is not that simple. Similarly on the perspective of features experienced by users, Android is more open to be customized by any community and thus more exposed to risk which is not the case for IOS.
