Abigail Hansen LIS 724 Media Services and Production 08/06/2013 Final Project Title of Lesson: Paper Cut-Out

/ 3-D Effect in Microsoft Office PowerPoint Audience: My possible audiences are people learning about Microsoft Office programs, and more specifically, Microsoft PowerPoint. This would most likely occur in a public library or a computer class in high school. Lesson Objectives: At the very least participants should walk away from the session knowing that PowerPoint has more potential and ability than they previously knew. Ideally, participants should be able to use the cut-out tool and make 3-D visual effects with PowerPoint. Sequence of Activity: Introduce topic and explain pros and cons Lead the class step-by-step through the following: o Pick a picture with white background o Remove background o Use scribble tool (Under home tab, drawing) to draw around picture o Eliminate outline around shape and fill shape with white o Right click on shape, click on Format Shape o Choose Fill and set shape to be slightly transparent o Edit the shape by right clicking and choosing Edit Points o Change shape back to solid transparency o Send shape backward (Format tab, Arrange) o Ctrl click both objects to Group (Format tab, Group) o Right click on grouped image (click Format Picture, then choose shadow options) I will ask questions frequently to make sure everyone understands I will walk around the room to make visual assessments that everyone is on the same track

Time / Materials / Equipment: o Time: 15 -20 minutes o Materials: paper handouts o Equipment: Computers with Microsoft PowerPoint installed Assessment: I will have everyone complete and return a SurveyMonkey survey to determine how affective my teaching was. I will also give time at the end of the lesson to let participants try the technique on their own. This time will be valuable for me to see how much of my instruction participants were able to absorb. Finally, I will ask questions during my presentation as to whether people understand the directions.
