1: What are four types of water pollution? Define each.

The four types are: Thermal Pollution: hot water causes a higher overall water temperature, which causes imbalances Industrial/ Chemical Pollution: discharge of toxic substances and other industrial byproducts into bodies of water Domestic Pollution: the flow of sewage, pesticides and other waste material Soil Pollution: when erosion causes to flow into a body of water 2: Which fish species are the least tolerant of water pollution? Which species are the most tolerant? How do you arrive at your conclusion? The fish species that are most tolerant are catfish and bass due to their conditions they can survive most. The least tolerant are trout and carp because they are the pickiest. 3: Which invertebrates are the least tolerant of water pollution? Which species are the most tolerant? How do you arrive at your conclusion? The most tolerant are rat-tailed maggots and midge larvae. The least tolerant are caddisfly larvae, mayfly nymphs, and mosquito larvae because of their description. 4: What might a high level of bacteria indicate about DO levels? What is the relationship between bacteria and water pollution? If there is much bacteria, then there is a less amount of DO in the water due to bacteria being able to be anoxic. With much bacteria, there is less oxygen for the rest of the aquatic life. 5: Based on the lab results, what conclusion can be drawn about each site? Which river was the most polluted? How did you arrive at your conclusion? Site 1 had only fish during winter and spring. Site 2 had trout year round but carp during fall. Site 3 had no fish during the summer season. The most polluted was site 3 due to

catfish and other tolerable fishes living there despite other sites.
