Phytoremediation: the process where plants are used to remove toxic waste from the environment. An example: hemp plants Phytostabilization: when life forms are used to break down hazardous waste, or prevent it from doing harm to the environment. An example: planting these plants around the area of contamination so that it wont spread Phytodegredation: when the pollutants are removed from the environment by the plant and starts to break down. An example: plants contain enzymes that catalyse and accelerate chemical reactions. Phytoextraction: the uptake of contaminants by plant roots and movement of the contaminants from the roots to aboveground parts of plants. An example: when hyperaccumulators are used to remove heavy metals from the environment and store them in their tissues
