. Research several sites to learn about the uses of a classroom newsletter as a communication tool between teachers and parents. Review attached materials that are examples of classroom newsletters, ideas of what to include and directions for using Publisher and MSWord to create a newsletter. Decide on your audience are you writing to parents or someone else. All items in the newsletter must be appropriate for audience. Create a newsletter in Publisher or Word, either completely on your own or using a template of your choice. The newsletter (1 or 2 pages) must include the following items at a minimum, and can include other sections of your choice: a. Personalized heading for example Mrs. Drummers Monthly News b. Puzzle or appropriate joke if using a puzzle, include the answers somewhere c. Appropriate graphics d. Your phone or e-mail address so you can be reached easily e. Short informational article on an appropriate topic for example, healthy after school snacks or fun family activities for winter months f. Student spotlight (student corner). g. Short paragraph on what students are learning and how parents can be involved (parent corner). Evaluate your newsletter using the Newsletter Evaluation Criteria handout. Print a color copy and give to Kadene for grading. In addition, e-mail a copy to Kadene @kadenedrummer@yahoo.com for safe keeping.
