1/30 Grading Meeting Attendance: Sundberg, Tucker, Oquist, Lingofelt, Corbett, Hedwall DP proposal to implement spring grading change.

. What assessment policy applies to the 11/12th grade DP classes? Next Fall: flexible in late work and reassessment and then Next Spring: they will have developed the skills and understanding to perform under a stricter policy that corresponds to content specific guidelines. (I dont know if I got this conversation/thought process exactly right) Tucker Should we bring in Lou Marachino Cherry to address staff now that we have implemented his theory. The idea being that implementing a theory is mucky business. How do we bridge the theoretical to the reality? It would be a good time to ask questions and hear him speak on it some more. Challenges: More late work is the observation. How do we communicate the importance of turning work in on time to students and stress that late work is not acceptable, but it is accepted? Where is the accountability piece for students . This seems to be lost in the new policy especially when looking at late work. Where do we go now? Educating Students: What is the clear message about our grading policy that we want the kids to know? Now that we have challenges and successes identified, lets look for suggestions from the staff. We need to address some of the challenges/successes that teachers shared. Example: Why did we need a new policy? Data on summative scoresare retakes showing improvement? It was suggested that we do some why with the staff. Why did we write the policy the way we did, what was in the old policy that helped move us to the new policy, educating staff through the research we read, etc There are still big questions that need to be addressed in regards to implementing the current grading policy. Next Year: 30/70 will we stay with it next year? Change to 10/90? How do we embed MYP/DP Criterion? Clarify the use of teacher discretion. How far are we going to go with the criterion in the gradebook?
