Callentine’s Class Week of 10/19 to 10/23

The 1st 9 weeks are coming to an end on October 23rd. Report cards for the grading period
will go home on 11/4/09. Parents, please schedule a conference with me if your child has a grade
below 80 in any subject!

Halloween- Herrera will celebrate on 10/28 from 1:30-4 during the Fall Bash. Students must
be accompanied by a parent or in the after school program to attend. Students may wear a school
appropriate (no blood, no weapons, nothing scary) costume to school, but remember that they must be
able to quickly and easily remove the costume WITHOUT assistance to use the restroom.
100 Book Challenge …log sheets are going well! Remember that you do not need to fill out the
“level” column for books read at home!
Field trip is next Tuesday 10/27. Please remember that every student needs to bring a sack
lunch from home for the field trip.
Learning Goals
Phonics: Short vowels, beginning blends
Reading/Writing: Writing complete sentences with correct capitalization and end punctuation (periods,
question mark, exclamation mark), nouns and verbs, folktales
Math: Addition to 12
Science: Matter (solids, liquids, gas), living and non-living

Words of the Week : Review of previously tested HFWs
Word Family: __op, _ot (hop, hot we’ll be working on 2 families this week, both with the short sound of “O”
Please cut out and help your child sort the short “O” word cards!
