My teacher told us about research that says that owning a pet improves your life. I think this research is true because of my own experiences with my own pet, a cat named Midnight. On my fifth birthday, my grandmother gave me a purring black fur-ball no bigger than an orange. I held this furball in my hands and felt it purring like it had a motor running inside of it. He stretched his tiny black paws and opened his mouth to show a little pink tongue. I thought Midnight would be the perfect name for him. That was five years ago and Midnight is now a fat feline with blazing yellow eyes. He would be a perfect model for a Halloween poster showing a witch with a black cat beside her. He looks like he would bring bad luck if he crossed your path, but he has been lucky for me. Midnight makes me laugh. I like to watch him bat at a ball hanging from a string. Sometimes he hits it too hard and it comes back and hits him in the face! He also likes to chase a toy car around the room. I wind up the toy Mustang, and Midnight watches closely. When I put it on the floor. he crouches down. When I let it go, he tries to pounce on it. Sometimes he slips on the floor and slides around. Midnight is so funny. I know having a Midnight as a pet has made my life better. He is a funny friend who makes me laugh. Do you have a pet to improve your life?

Sheryl M. Ness, an R.N. from the Mayo Clinic, says, Research has shown time and again that there are positive benefits to having a pet in the home. The positive benefits are true for all age groups, from young children through adults. My experiences with my own pet, a big black cat, would show this research to be true. On my fifth birthday, my grandmother gave me the best present I have ever received: a black fur-ball no bigger than an orange. I held this furball in my hands and even though his eyes were closed, I felt it purring as though it had a motor running. He stretched his tiny black paws and opened his mouth in a yawn that exposed a wee pink tongue. He opened his eyes and just stared up at me. I knew what his name was immediately. Hello, Midnight, I said. Five years have passed and Midnight is now a fat feline with blazing yellow eyes. He would be a perfect model for a Halloween poster showing a witch at a cauldron with a black cat perched on her shoulder. Some people are superstitious when it comes to black cats; they think bad luck comes along if one crosses your path. However, I feel fortunate that Midnight came into my life. Midnight is a furry little clown. I like to watch him bat at a ball hanging from a string. Sometimes he hits it too hard and it comes back and smacks him in the face! He looks surprised, hisses, and hits the ball again. He also likes to chase a toy car around the room. I wind up the toy Mustang, and Midnight watches closely. When I put it on the floor. he crouches down. When I let it go, he tries to pounce on it. Sometimes he slips on the floor and slides around. Midnights actions make me laugh. Midnight seems to sense when I do not want to play. When I am sad, sick, or tired, he just curls up next to me. Sometimes he rubs his face against me, as though he is trying to tell me something. Just having him near makes me feel better.

I know having a Midnight as a pet has made my life better. He is a funny friend who makes me laugh. He helps me feel better when I am down. Do you have a pet to improve your life?
