BREIF HISTORY A plastic material is any of a wide range of synthetic or semi synthetic organic solids that are moldable. In 1600 BC natural rubber was used for balls, bands and figurines. Early plastics were bio-derived materials such as egg and blood proteins which are organic polymers. In 1800s the development of plastics accelerated with the discovery of vulcanization as a route to thermoset materials derived from natural rubber.

INTRODUCTION Plastics are typically organic polymers of high molecular mass but contain a variety of substances. They are usually synthetic, most commonly derived from petrochemicals but many are partially natural. The following are the types and examples of plastics, polyethylene teraphthalate e.g. water bottles, high density polyethylene e.g. milk and bleach bottles, polyvinyl chloride e.g. window and door frames, low density polyethylene e.g. carrier bags, polypropylene e.g. margarine bottles and polystyrene. The uses of plastics include
