Choose one of the following assignments to help educate the OBHS community about recycling and reducing our Carbon Footprint. Alternative ideas are welcome! 1. Create a poster (8 x 14) with the details our community should know about the recycling program in Oyster Bay. a. What can be recycled? b. Where and when can materials be recycled? c. What are the personal benefits of recycling? d. What are the benefits of recycling for the entire community? e. What resources (websites, facilities, materials, etc.) exist for members of our community to get started? 2. Create a poster (8 x 14) related to one of the stages in the Life Cycle of Stuff. a. On the back of the poster, write an essay that describes the effect of following the Green Tip for that stage. 3. Write a persuasive essay/newspaper article to encourage your peers to consider the

Life Cycle of Stuff in their decisions as consumers.


4. Write a song or make a video related to one of the stages of the Life Cycle of Stuff. Include the Green Tip and discuss the positive effects it would have on the environment.

5. Generate an Action List for a typical home in Oyster Bay. a. List at least five economical and realistic changes that a family could make to reduce their carbon footprint. b. On the back, write an essay that explains the effect of each change with respect to carbon emissions and/or the Life Cycle of Stuff. 6. Generate a Fact Sheet to grab the attention of students (i.e., Paper Recycling Facts, Plastic Water Bottle Facts). o Each student must choose their own assignment and topic (no repeats). o Fact sheet must include at least 10 facts. o A minimum of 4 sources must referenced. o Each student must write a summary, relating the facts to the Life Cycle of

Stuff.
