Case Study

Semester 3

Objectives: Build the network according to the diagram shown above Perform successful configuration and troubleshooting of routers and switches Present a final report according to task descriptions

Network Topology Description Network shown above consists of 3 LANs interconnected using routers: Main Building LAN Sales Branch LAN Administrative LAN These LANs are interconnected with 4 routers. The whole network is connected to the internet via ISP router which is not under your administration. Main Building LAN consists of 3 VLANs (+ VLAN 1 as management VLAN): Server Farm VLAN Research and Development VLAN Sales and Marketing VLAN Maximal expected numbers of hosts per LAN are the following: LAN Main Building Sales Branch Admin VLAN Management (VLAN 1) Servers Research and Development Sales and Marketing Hosts 4* 5 40 50 25 20

* Management VLAN must include 3 IP addresses for 3 switches + 1 for corresponding subinterface on the router

All other links are point-to-point. IP addresses for the link to ISP are predefined as shown in the network topology. Port distribution by VLANs for switches in the Main Building is the following: Switch Switch 1 Port Fa0/1, Fa0/2, Fa0/24 Fa0/3 Fa0/5 Fa0/6 Fa0/16 Fa0/17 Fa0/23 Fa0/1, Fa0/24 Fa0/2 Fa0/10 Fa0/11 Fa0/22 Fa0/23 VLAN Trunk Servers Research and Development Sales and Marketing Trunk Research and Development Sales and Marketing Servers 2

Tasks 1. Choose global address space. Network address block must not be bigger than /24. 2. Perform subnetting using VLSM. Try to avoid the waste of addresses. Distribute created subnets to network segments. 3. Run OSPF (single area) dynamic routing protocol in the network. Use loopback interfaces. 4. Configure static default route to provider and redistribute it via dynamic routing. 5. Check connectivity between different LANs and with ISP router. 6. Create VLANs in the Main Building LAN as required in the Network Topology Description. 7. Assign switch ports to VLANs in the Main Building LAN. 8. Configure VLAN trunking (802.1q) between switches in the Main Building LAN. 9. Force Switch 1 to become STP Root Bridge by setting its priority. 10. Run VTP on switches in the Main Building LAN. Configure Switch 1 as VTP server. 11. Configure each branch office router to act as DHCP server. 12. Configure Border router to perform PAT service for the inside LAN with private addressing. 13. Configure serial links with PPP encapsulation with CHAP authentication 14. Configure ACL Admin user must access everything telnet, ssh, web, ftp, smtp and pop3 on server, other users should access only web, ftp, smtp and pop3. 15. Configure access lists so that nobody could access your network from internet. 16. Write Case Study Final Report.

Final Report Final Report must include the following sections: 1. Network diagram 2. Short network description 3. Addressing scheme using VLSM 4. List of Equipment used in the Case Study 5. Command outputs from each router (ISP router not included): show running-config show ip route show ip protocol 6. Command outputs from each switch: show running-config 3

show vlan show spanning-tree show vtp status
