GENERAL 1.1 Summary A. Scope of Specification This specification prescribes the requirements for corrugated metal decking used for roofing, concrete forming, and composite decks. This specification does not include deck used for diaphragms. B. Submittals For submittals, refer to PO (Purchase Order)/ Contract. A. Submit shop drawings of all metal decking to Buyer for approval. Shop drawings shall indicate size and location of floor framing supports, the locations, lengths, and markings of deck units, accessories, closure pieces, and welding and screwing patterns. Erection sequence shall also be indicated. Approval of the shop drawings by Buyer does not relieve Supplier of any of the responsibilities and requirements provided by this specification or by the related design drawings. Submit details of physical properties and load capacities of proposed metal decking together with the shop drawings.

PRODUCTS 2.1 Roof Deck/Built-up Roof A. Roof deck to carry built-up roofing systems shall be manufactured from steel conforming to ASTM A611, Grade C, having a minimum yield strength of 227.5 MPa (33,000 psi) and a minimum thickness of 2422-gage. Panel configuration shall conform to SDI and Factory Mutual requirements and shall be formed with integral ribs, not over 150 mm (6 inches) on center, and overlapping side laps. The overlapping rib shall contain at least the area of metal of the interior rib. Material thickness and thickness tolerance shall be in accordance with SDI criteria. When the drawings call for steel decking to be painted, the deck and accessories shall be cleaned and painted according to Paint Specification. Field welds shall be touched up according to Paint Specification. Acoustical roof deck shall have acoustical perforations in the vertical webs and sound absorbing elements inserted in the void spaces between the webs. These elements shall be inert nonorganic mineral fiber material with high sound absorption capability.

Other Roof Deck Other roof deck shall conform to the requirements of roof deck with built-up roofing systems, except that steel shall conform to ASTM A361 and A653, Grade A, having a minimum yield strength of 227.5 MPa (33,000 psi) and a minimum thickness of 0.450.61 mm (26 24 gage). Decking shall receive a commercial zinc coating (G90) in accordance with ASTM A653.

Form Deck Form deck shall be manufactured from steel conforming to ASTM A653, Grade A, having a minimum yield strength of 227.5 MPa (33,000 psi) and a minimum thickness of 0.760.91 mm (22 20 gage). Decking shall receive a commercial zinc coating (G90) in accordance with ASTM A653. A. B. Non-Composite form deck shall resist construction loads including the weight of fresh concrete. Panel configuration shall be in accordance with SDI and as shown on the drawings. Composite form deck shall resist construction loads including the weight of fresh concrete. After the concrete hardens, the steel deck and the concrete shall be interlocked. The steel deck shall provide the means for this interlocking. Panel configuration shall be in accordance with SDI and as shown on the drawings.

METAL DECKING CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATION C. 2.4 The deflection (simple span) of the decking under the weight of fresh concrete shall be limited to L/240.
Deck Design Deck design shall be based on a maximum fiber stress of 138 MPa (20,000 psi) and a maximum liveload deflection of L/240. Section property values and design criteria shall conform to AISI Specifications. Refer to design drawings for superimposed loads and design details.

Mechanical Deck Fasteners A. Mechanical fasteners for attaching deck to structural steel members shall be Teks/4, Teks/5 and Teks/1 self-drilling fasteners as manufactured by ITW Buildex; or X-EDN19, X-EDNK22 or ENPH2 power actuated fasteners and 10-16 HWH screws as manufactured by Hilti Fastening Systems. Side lap (stitch) fasteners shall be # 10 screws. Erector shall furnish. Mechanical deck fasteners shall be self drilling/self tapping fasteners as manufactured by ITW Buildex, or 10-16 HWH screws as manufactured by Hilti, or approved equals. Erector shall furnish.

Accessories Accessories such as ridge and valley plates, sump pans, and closure pieces shall be of the same material and finish as the deck units.
2.7
Fabrication Cut deck units to the required lengths so that end laps (swedge type) will occur on supporting members (but need not be staggered)with the laps staggered between adjacent panels. Typical lengths shall be at least 3 spans. End laps of deck, except composite form deck, shall be overlapped a minimum of 2 inches.

EXECUTION 3.1 General A. Store metal decking and accessories above ground, protected from dirt and grease. Until final installation, cover deck units that are not painted or galvanized. Coordinate all work with Roofing Contractor to ensure that no delays occur in applying built-up roofing over unprotected decking. Install decking in accordance with the approved shop drawings. Verify that major equipment has been placed and aligned prior to installing roof decking.

Details Details of the attachment of the deck to the structural supports are shown on the design drawings. In the absence of these details, the following will serve as a minimum guideline: A. Puddle welds shall have an effective area at least 16 mm (5/8 of an inch) in diameter. Weld washers shall be used for any decking less than 0.76mm (22 gage) in thickness. Weld metal shall penetrate all layers of deck material and have good fusion to supporting members. Teks/4 or X-EDN19/X-EDNK22 fasteners shall be used for fastening metal deck to steel of 6.5 mm (1/4 of an inch) or less. Teks/5 or ENPH2 fasteners shall be used for steel greater than 6.5 mm (1/4 of an inch) thickness. Teks/1 or 10-16 HWH screws shall be used for mid-span lap connections. Decks without built-up roofing systems shall be attached with screws only, and screws shall be fitted with neoprene washers. At support members, the deck shall be attached at all side laps and at a minimum of 300mm (12 inches) on center. This spacing shall be reduced to 150 mm (6 inches) around the perimeter of any roof subjected to high wind uplift pressures as noted on the drawings. A minimum of one (1)

METAL DECKING CONSTRUCTION SPECIFICATION mid-span side lap fastener shall be provided. The maximum spacing of side lap fasteners shall be 900 600 mm (3 2 feet). Form deck side laps shall be a minimum of one (1) corrugation. C. Place decking true and straight, 6.5 mm (1/4 of an inch) maximum horizontal misalignment in any 30.5 m (100 feet) of roof length, so that edges of insulation boards will not gradually move off the deck flanges.
3.3
Installation Provide and install closure pieces with the decking at all edges and all roof openings. Provide and install all other accessories shown on the drawings or necessary to complete the installation of the deck.
