ECG R-wave detector

1. Objectives Design an ECG Amplifier & QRS Detector 2. Theory. ECG component detection

R-wave detection

Automated R-wave detection useful for: heart rate measurement. detection of tachycardia (high HR), bradycardia, (low HR), or ventricular fibrillation. Some important problems: Different R-R intervals Different R-wave heights. The R-detection of an ECG can be done by the following circuit:

The graph below shows the output effect from the following circuits, with channels displayed in from the top down: 1. Instrumentation Amplifier. 1. Active Filter: High Pass (HP .05Hz) 2. Active Filter: Low Pass (LP 100Hz) 3. Active Filter: Single Frequency Notch (60Hz Notch) 4. Active Filter: Single Frequency Band Pass (BP 17Hz Q=5) 5. Absolute Value Converter (ABS Value) 6. Active Filter (LP 10Hz).

2. Procedure 1. Design and build the circuit. The circuit receives power from a +-5V battery arrangement. 2. Use first the signal generator to stimulate the circuit as required. 3. Measure the circuit inputs and outputs via the breadboard and the probe on CH 1. 4. Add a microcontroller control circuit and display.
