Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918, in South Africa. He was an anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist. Mandela attended the Fort Hare University and the University of Witwatersrand, where he studied law.

The name Madiba, for which he is known in his country, was initially given to him when he was 7 years old. Working as a lawyer, he was repeatedly arrested for seditious activities and, with the ANC leadership, but always unsucessfully. He was arrested in 1964, with a life sentence.

27 years later, Frederik Willem de Klerk, the president of the time, released him. In the following elections, Mandela was elected President of South Africa. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid. He made South Africa a free, equal and anti-apartheid country.
