You

will choose two poems that speak to each other in some thematically, tonally, literarily, etc. You will analyze both poems together. The goal of the comparison poems is to generate one thesis that addresses the elements in both poems. Tomorrow, I will have the poems out for you to peruse. You select two. Alternatively, you may select one poem from my choices and one of your own.

Find

a song or poem that seems to respond to one of the poems. Write a response poem. TP-CASTT analysis of both

EXAMPLE using Sonnet 130 and Litany:

In both Billy Collinss Litany and William Shakespeares Sonnet 130, the trope of the idolized love is broken down. In Shakespeares extreme contrasts and Collinss absurd metaphors, the speakers use sarcasm and humor to point out how unrealistic it is to compare a loved one to these ideals.

Looking

at the first stanza, what does the speaker remember about the relationship? What is his recollection of the breakup? Why is he angry now? What new information do we get about the relationship from the womans perspective? How does her perspective change our view of the male speaker?

How

does listening to these two perspectives increase our understanding of the song as a whole? What might our Thesis about this song be?
