The Charismatic Catholic Latino Movement

My area has had a large increase of Hispanics over the last 10 years and I have noticed a shift in the Hispanic Catholic religion. Many Hispanic Catholics continue in our area to be traditional with their mass services with prayer and songs of solemnness. Presently, the Charismatic Catholic Movement is beginning to make a strong appearance in the Hazleton area in the Hispanic culture. According to a recent survey conducted by NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard School of Public Health, about one-third of Latino Catholics in the U.S. identify as Charismatic. In this movement, more Hispanics are concentrating on a closer connection with God, and there are also miraculous healings and prophesying. It's very similar to what you'd expect to see at a Pentecostal church where the number of Latino converts is growing quickly. As for me, I am a born-again Christian who can appreciate the love and emotion that the charismatic Latino Catholics feel when worshipping and praising God. Although I do not show as much emotion as a charismatic Catholic, I can appreciate the good feeling it brings to sing and worship the God of the universe.
