Background Information
The first days of school can be exciting and anxious for everyone involved. Students are excited to be back and anxious about who their new teacher will be. Teachers are excited about their new class yet anxious to be well enough prepared that the day goes well for everyone involved. This activity is a fun icebreaker designed to help everyone in those all important first days of school
Grade Level
Grades 3 - 8
Purpose
Have fun getting to know each other on the first days of school.
Materials
Teacher Students Classroom Pencil or pen Hard backing for the game card (clipboards or students atlas)
Procedure
Have students create the area for the game to be played by moving all desks to one side of the room. Invite students to come with their atlas/clipboard, pencil or pen and sit in a circle in the area theyve created for the game to be played. Hand out the Game Card Sheet and go over the purpose and the rules with all students. Students play the game (you may wish to play as well) by standing and approaching individuals in the room to ask questions and obtain signatures/initials.
Follow-Up
Have students sit in the circle when the time period has expired and the game is over. The scores are not important having fun is! If you wish to acknowledge a winner, simply ask the students to count up the number of different signatures/initials they have on their card.
