Content 40 points

Does the formal analysis stay on topic (or near topic)?
Does the students visual essay show a clear understanding how to do a formal
analysis?
Does their message stay clear or nearly related to the topic?
Do the students show evidence of transitioning from personal evidence into
more academic argument forms (provides evidence and research)?
Do the students take into consideration most of the formal elements and
principles of design, as well as the questions of formal analysis?

FOR ADVANCED SPEAKERS: Does the advanced speaker formulate good questions
about the image?

Vocabulary 30 points

Does the group engage and properly use the vocabulary from Unit 1?
Does the student show any evidence of attempting to transition from personal
preference/topics to the use of more academic and persuasive vocabulary?

Organization 10 points

Does the group show evidence of attempting to organize into paragraph
structure?
Does the group show evidence of attempting to interconnect the sentences into
an organized form?

Syntax/Grammar 15 points

Does the group show evidence of understanding and controlling basic sentence
structure?
Is there evidence that the group is starting to transition from speaking style
sentences to more written style?
Does the student show evidence of correct usage of verb forms?
Is the group writing in complete sentences (very few fragments or run=ons)?

Mechanics 5 points.

Does the group show evidence of using appropriate capitalization, spelling,
punctuation, and mechanics?
