Original Sonnet My heifer so kind is a rule of thumb Mowing my backyard with a pleasant munch Setting out her oat hay for her to come Prancing down the mountain for her lunch A Moo of cheer for she is satisfied Brushing her soft and silky fur it gleams White with scattered black makes her classified A Holstein calf that would be, my only dream When I load her up for the fair ahead A blue ribbon I can see beneath her Then comes the show which is full of my dread Knowing the auction will make me a blur Going home only to lose my best friend Only to begin all over again --Nicholas Carle
