Enterprise Architecture Definition: An enterprise architecture (EA) is a conceptual blueprint that defines the struc ture and operation

of an organization. The intent of an enterprise architecture is to determine how an organization can most effectively achieve its current and future objectives. To explain EA to the family, I would ask my family members to consider family as the same organization as an enterprise. As in an enterprise there are many diff erent people who perform different roles in the organization for a common benefi t of the organization, similarly in a family, family members perform different r oles. Each family member has different roles and perform different processes. Husband - earns and bring money, perform outdoor activities. Mother - cooks food, manages expenses, takes cares of each family member Children - studies, plays, does expenditure. Each person performs its role independently. EA will act as a conduit between a ll the family members and tries to define each and every process that is perform ed in the home. EA applications will find the interactions between the different roles (eg. earning money performed by father and managing expenses by mother) a nd tries to see the information flow between these processes and then will map t hese processes & information in to the technological platform using the hardware , software and operating systems and networking solutions. EA enables us to effectively manage and take decisions for future targets. EA ba sically uses IT as a driver for success of the enterprise. EA will have a clear insight in the processes and also removes the inefficiency and redundancy of pro cesses. EA will basically intergrate all the roles of each family member in one centrali zed application. EA adapts to changing demands of the enterprise. Suppose in the family, a new child is born, EA applications are flexible enough to accomodate a new entrant and its related new processes in the already existing running appl ication. I would like to conclude to family by saying that EA is used to steer decision m aking to become a high-performance organization.
