Where Patriots Meet

After the Revolution and the War of 1812, our fighting men returned to their homes to live in peace, hanging their rifled muskets and powder horns over the mantle, and each prayed, in his own way, that he would never have to take them down to bear arms against their fellow man. It would be better that those muskets remained ever after above the mantle, but there have been occasions where the American civilian has had to answer the call to assembly, rushing to the sound of the guns. Never were they allowed to rust, but were lovingly, even reverently, maintained ever at the ready. In the heart of every American Patriot is a zealous desire to protect the rights paid for by their ancestors. Those muskets have remained in silent vigil every ready for the hands of the heirs of the revolution to grasp them, ready to fight tyranny wherever it is found ready to answer the call to assembly to rush to the sound of the guns. May it ever be so, that patriots stand at the ready, like the muskets of their ancestorsready to give that last full measure, so that others may live free - Ready to pledge their lives, their fortune, and their sacred honor.

Francis Scott Key put it better, perhaps, than any but Jefferson Oh, thus be it ever, when free men shall stand between their loved homes and wars desolation. Blessed with victory and peace, may the heavn rescued land praise the Power that hath made, and preserved us, a Nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause, it is just. Let this be our motto In GOD is our trust. And so shall that star-spangled banner eer wave Oer THIS land of the Free Oer THIS home of the Brave.

I hope that each one of you hears those words as I do.

Frederick John LaVergne, Democratic-Republican for Congress, NJ CD 3 2014
