506 Occupational Analysis Reflection

After working on the occupational analysis form, I am more aware of how to break down an activity and consider all aspects of it. I am also more aware of the type of information that is required in order to look at an activity, based on a clients specific needs. Additionally, this was one of the first activities that allowed me to get an occupational profile on a client. I was able to understand the types of questions and information needed. The activity that I focused on was cooking macaroni and cheese with a client, who I have known for the majority of my life. I chose to focus on this client because she has difficulty with her ADLs that includes cooking, cleaning, dressing, computer use, and walking. She has been living in her current home for 33 years, along with her parents. Her parents are her primary caregivers and she has an assistant during the day. She enjoys swimming, shopping, listening to music, working on the computer, and reading. Her primary concerns involve manipulating her upper extremities (particularly on the right side). In addition, she would like to become more independent in her ability to cook. After watching the individual complete the activity, I was able to break down all aspects of a task and come up with short-term goals, long-term goal, and look at the specific materials and equipment required for the task. I also looked specifically at the domain and process and how each related to the client and the task of cooking. Additionally, this was the first assignment that required us to do a soap note.
