Pavani Gingrich Robert Arnold LBST 2215- H77 Social Justice Figure

Sarita Gupta is the executive director of Jobs with Justice, which is an organization that advocates and pushes for workers rights. As the executive director, she not only interacts with the government in trying to convince them of certain rights, but she also frontlines many of the demonstrations, marches, and strikes. For instance, she was part of the shareholders rally in front of Bank of America to protest the job cuts and the unequal pay. She was also the main voice in the protest on Walmarts unequal pay for women in equal jobs. Basically, she advocates for Article 23 in the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Sarita is also the co-director of Caring Across Generations, which is an advocacy coalition for quality healthcare and a good quality of life for all Americans. She goes before Congress protesting the withholding of quality healthcare for veterans, their families, and the physical and mentally disabled. Our country sends thousands of soldiers overseas to defend us and other countries, but we hardly pay them back when they sacrifice themselves in the name of America. Many injured soldiers do not receive the long-term healthcare that they deserve, so Sarita Gupta has become their voice, as well as the voice for the disabled. After all the work Sarita does to better the lives of the common man, she can definitely be considered a social justice figure. She is fighting for the rights of others that should be of no contest to our government.
