WHAT ARE SOME INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT MARY MACKILLOPS CHILDHOOD OR EARLY LIFE
On January 15, 1842 Mary MacKillop was born of Scottish parents, Alexander MacKillop and Flora MacDonald in Fitzroy, Victoria. This was less than seven years after Fawkner sailed up the Yarra, when Elizabeth Street was a deep gully and Lonsdale Street was still virgin bush. A plaque in the footpath now marks the place of her birth in Brunswick Street, Fitzroy. Mary, the eldest of eight children, was well educated by her father who spent some years studying for the priesthood in Rome but through ill health had returned to his native Scotland until 1835 when he migrated to Australia with his parents. Unfortunately, he lacked financial awareness, so the family was often without a home of their own, depending on friends and relatives and frequently separated from one another.
Mary Mackillop decided to take this path in her life because her family were very poor and so if she got a job she would be able to give all the money that she eared to her family so that they could buy a house, food, water, and they would then be able to live a happy and safe life. Mary Mackillops family were not wanting her to give the money to them Mary Mackillop just decided to do that because she really just wanted to help her family.
Mary Mackillops work made a difference to the world by, she encouraged other wimen to make more schools around the world so that more and more children can have a good and more better education around the world. Once she had encouraged other wimen to make more schools around the world , most of them listened and made sure that lots and lots of the kids could go to a school and learn like everyone else.
