Teachers Society, Resume and Cover Letters, Curriculum Planning and Faculty of Education Resources I Only Wish I Had Read it Sooner (K-12)- September 2012- Joe Stouffer In this session, Joe Stouffer uncovered the secrets of literacy instruction that all teachers, regardless of grade or subject area, need to know. An exploration of how children learn to read and how to assist students in any class who are struggling with reading and writing was an integral part of the presentation. Real World Teaching- October 2012- Brian Cox An in-depth look at an intrinsically motivation reading and writing program was presented which included math and science concepts, while focusing on modeling, pacing and content, beating writers block, helping struggling readers, and marks and grades. Writing from Memory- October 2012- Don Cuggy In this session participants explored an approach to writing designed by author/illustrator/educator Lynda Barry. This approach is used to develop voice, flow, and confidence in aspiring writers, ages nine to ninety. Thinking up stories is hard; using your memories and shared experiences makes it much easier. Numeracy Intervention Training Course (First Steps in Mathematics) - October & December 2013- David McKillop This was a four day, twenty-five hour course that was focused on number: whole and decimal numbers, fractions, operations, computations, patterns and algebra. The diagnostic map provided and discussed is of tremendous help for teachers to provide the challenges students need to move their thinking forward to refine half-formed ideas, and to overcome any misconceptions students may have, so they can achieve the mathematical learning goals of number. Reading Assessment (K-8) - January 2014- Joe Stouffer Training session workshop in taking Running Records of any text in order to record and analyze students reading behaviors as a means to inform instruction. The Benchmark Assessment (Fountas and Pinnell) provides teachers with formative assessment concerning students strategic activity, accuracy, fluency, and comprehension within, beyond, and about texts.
