To assign wind loads to a cylindrical tower consisting of plate elements.

Process: Let us consider a cylindrical tower constituting plate elements as shown below:

In STAAD.Pro Wind Load using the Wind Load De inition! can be applied only on a Frame Structure. There ore" it is not possible in STAAD.Pro to assign the wind load to a plate system using the #Wind Load De initions$. A simple way to assign wind load in such a situation is as ollows: At irst" clic% on &'(')AL * L+AD in the le t pane and the #Load$ window appears.

In the #Load$ window" clic% on #Load ,ases Details$ and then on #Add$. The # Add New: Load Cases$ window comes up:

Pro-ide a name to the load case under #Title$ and clic% on #Add$ . #,lose$. ,lic% on the speci ied load case title under #Load ,ases Details$ and clic% on #Add$. The #Add New: Load Items$ window comes up:

,lic% on #Plate Loads$ in the le t pane o # Add New: Load Items$ window and clic% on #/ydrostatic$. A new window comes up:

,lic% on #Select Plate0s1$ and then a #Selected Items(s)$ window appear. Drag the window to one side o the screen so that the model can be seen properly to select the appropriate plates. 2iew the model rom top 0-iew rom 341 and select the le t or right side plates o the tower by the plate cursor as shown depending on rom which direction the wind will blow. ,lic% on #Done$ in the #Selected Items(s)$ window.
