net April 15, 2014 CCSD Human Resources: This letter is an expression of interest for the position of a Math Teacher in the Clark County School District. My Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Mathematics from Nevada State College, as well as my hands-on teaching experience, makes me a great fit for this position. I am certain in my capability to provide the Clark County School District with high standards of teaching services that will increase student proficiency and success in math. My split student teaching experience was incredibly unique, and it gave me an opportunity to see two completely different classroom models and teaching philosophies. I spent my mornings teaching an 8th grade pre-algebra class at Burkholder Middle School and the rest of my day at Virtual High School teaching Algebra I and Math Applications during my semester of student teaching. These placements allowed me to gain hands-on experience in a wide range of teaching technologies and techniques to assist students in the learning process. The activities, workshops, and projects that I created for my students provided them with a varied and engaging look at the required content. From assisting in writing Pre-Algebra textbooks to travelling to Baltimore to present my undergraduate research project, my education has allowed me to experience things that I never imagined I would be a part of. My goal is to show my students how their education can open doors and provide them with exciting opportunities that they would not have otherwise had. As an educator, I strive to inspire my students to work hard, have high self-expectations, and to set manageable goals both in and out of the classroom. Being a hard-working and well-rounded educator, I welcome the opportunity to meet with you to discuss how my expertise, collaborative nature, innovative classroom skills, and passion for the subject would benefit your mathematics program. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely, Allysa Starkweather
