Observation: 3/13/14

She taught the introduction to my lesson the day before my lesson. She was introducing force and motion. Most of the kids when she asked them at the beginning knew what force meant (to push or pull something). They also knew what motion was (something has movement or it moves). I was shocked that so many of them knew what it was and so was she. She asked them questions like: How can you tell when an object has moved? When its position changes. She introduced what a frame of reference is which is an object used for comparing another object to describe its position. This was a new vocabulary word for them in science. She had them write down the definition in their science notebooks. She had them make a list of things they can push and a list of things they can pull. And then illustrate one of each. They then watched a push or pull song on YouTube. It seemed really silly but the students really got into it.
