A Book Talk 2 My thoughts are stars I cant fathom into constellations. (Green, p. 311) John Greens, The Fault in Our Stars, will bring about a range of emotions from the reader. The book explores topics like cancer, friendship, love, death, and family. The story takes place in Indiana. We meet only child, Hazel, who at just sixteen years old is living with lung cancer. At her mothers request, she attends a support group for teens with cancer. It is there that she meets Isaac, a teenage boy with eye cancer whom she befriends. It is also where she meets Augustus, an amputee who is currently in remission from cancer. It is upon that first meeting, that Gus will make a profound impact on Hazels life forever. It starts with quiet stares and glances during the support group meeting. Then, Augustus invites Hazel to watch a movie at his house. From there, a relationship develops that will have the two teenagers sharing their fears and the ups and downs of their illness, traveling to Amsterdam, and falling in love for the first and only time. This book, although is written as Teen fiction, is equally enjoyable for all adults. The book has been made into a movie with a release date in June of 2014. Dont wait for the movie, read the book before it comes out.
