Jazz Dance I (Reflections ONE: Week of February 4, 2014) 1. My impressions of the class at this time: The topic of discussion has been Alignments. I think that Jacquelyn Potts Hand really has credentials in what she has wanted us to learn. I am in awe that she can even do some of these moves being an expectant mother. I am now realizing that more stretching exercises are needed. 2. New information: Body alignments 1) Pelvic Alignment: We want to make sure that pelvic is aligned. 2) Asis: is bones in front. 3) Pubic Symphysis: Right and left side pubic bones. Take hands and place hands on Asis bones. Take and place hands on Pubic bones. This action will make back really tight. We do not want fingertips behind because it will cause swayback. So if you are tucking (where pubic synthesis is in front) When we bend knees. We want the center of the knee over the second and third toe. (Tracking knees over toes) We also learned about Foot Alignments: 1) Head of (Neutral) 2) First Metarsal 3) Narvicular Tuberosity 4) Medial side of Calcaneus 5) Rolling out (Supination) 6) Neutral alignment when all three in line.

7) More weight on the outside of foot. 8) Rib cage alignment. Make sure that rib cage rolls forward or rolls back. 9) Rolling in More weight on the inside of foot. 10) Types of feet: Neutral alignment, Supination, Pronation.

3. How I have been able to use this information outside of class: This information has been very useful in fitness and learning healthy proper body alignment methods. Information learned in Jazz Dance class can also be used at the campus gym and anywhere else when developing strength and flexibility. 4. Specific feedback or critiques: It is very important to be able to perform and flow with a proper pli while developing proper alignment. In addition, it is also important knowing the proper techniques in strength, fitness, flexibility and coordination to prevent injury. 5. How are you feeling: Healthier and more confident in doing the dance moves as a group. Feeling less inhibited about making errors because its all part of the process of learning.
