EMPLOYMENT STATUS
The purpose of this Job Description is to provide a broad outline of the responsibilities of the role. An employee will be required to perform from time to time other duties as required to fulfil the objective of the position.
RESPONSIBILITY/ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT
The Signals Engineer: Engineer is accountable to the Manager Signalling Engineering; prepares designs, specifications, technical instructions, submissions and reports; supports tasks associated with Capital Projects and provides site support if required; investigates and reports on signalling system reliability issues; researches and reports on options to improve the signalling system performance; provides technical support to the field staff in signalling, CTC and electrical systems maintenance; and liaises with a range of internal and external customers, including managers and staff of the organisation, Federal, State and Local Government agencies, private consultants and outside organisations on Railway Signalling and electrical engineering issues.
Technical Advice
Provide professional advice to staff, external organisations and contractors including: Translating complex technical principles and information into forms understood by clients without technical knowledge. Assist in designing complex systems and or verification of designs for external organisations. Provision of advice to Electronic Signal Tradespersons to facilitate first and second line maintenance of computerbased signalling systems, and complex electronic signalling equipment.
All expert advice provided. Assistance in design and verification of design achieved. Electronic Signal Tradespersons supported.
Rail Safety
Rail Safety: Ensure that relevant elements of the Rail Safety Act, regulations and standards are met. Compliance with relevant Rail Safety Act, regulations and standards achieved.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
Contribute to the development of a customer focused service and a positive corporate image, including the maintenance of good working relationships with staff, Unions and the general public, by: a) maintaining open lines of communication on all matters raised between the organisations offices/employees; b) attending to urgent matters as they arise. All Customer Service standards met.
OHS&W, EEO and environmental legislation, regulations, and standards, including relevant Australian standards, through adherence to the organisations policies, procedures and practices; b) actively participating in the identification and implementation of strategies to control all relevant risks, including the appropriate reporting of notifiable occurrences and environmental incidents; c) ensuring all work practices continuously improve in accordance with quality principles. Key Performance Indicator/s (KPI) Rail Safety, OHS&W, EEO and Environmental Act requirements complied with and commitment demonstrated. organisational policies, procedures and practices, including quality related instruments, are complied with; Safety, security and environmental risks within the work area are mitigated in accordance with plans and timelines.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
Some out of hours work and attendance at worksites will be required. Required to meet the Health assessment criteria for Category 1.
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Qualifications Degree in Engineering enabling eligibility for corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia (E) Graduate Certificate, Diploma or Master in Railway Signalling obtained through the CQU. (D) Associate or full member of the Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers (IRSE). (D) Class C Drivers Licence. (E) Electrical Workers Licence. (D)
Relevant Knowledge & Experience Knowledge of railway signalling principles, signalling design and applications. (E) Knowledge of project management practices and contract and tendering conditions. (D) Knowledge of project scheduling software, project reporting system, General Ledger, spreadsheets, word processor and database software. (D) Experience in AUTOCAD or equivalent computer aided drafting packages. (D) Extensive engineering experience in the field of electrical/electronic systems. (D) TransAdelaide Trackforce Rules and ARTC Code of Practice. (D) Experience in compiling project management estimates. (E) Knowledge of ISO 9000 Quality Systems. (E) Knowledge of computer based systems for Railway Operations. (E) Knowledge and Experience in Telemetry and SCADA Systems. (D) Knowledge of relevant Government policies, practices and operations. (D) Knowledge of TransAdelaide Awards, Certified Agreements, and other agreements/instructions relating to pay entitlements. (D)
