The purpose of this Job Description is to provide a broad outline of the responsibilities of the role. An employee will be required to perform from time to time other duties as required to fulfil the objective of the position.

RESPONSIBILITY/ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT
The Signals Engineer: Engineer is accountable to the Manager Signalling Engineering; prepares designs, specifications, technical instructions, submissions and reports; supports tasks associated with Capital Projects and provides site support if required; investigates and reports on signalling system reliability issues; researches and reports on options to improve the signalling system performance; provides technical support to the field staff in signalling, CTC and electrical systems maintenance; and liaises with a range of internal and external customers, including managers and staff of the organisation, Federal, State and Local Government agencies, private consultants and outside organisations on Railway Signalling and electrical engineering issues.

Design and Technical Services


Provides effective design and technical services by preparing cost estimates, preliminary designs for approval. preparing detailed designs, drawings, design verification, computer software design and verification. preparing specifications and tender documentation. testing, verifying and commissioning of electrical and signal installations. provide technical support for a range of specialised projects associated with: relay Interlocked and microprocessor based railway signalling systems; railway signalling power distributions systems; assist with the site supervision of signalling/electrical maintenance and construction works and contract site works. support the integration of design and document control in Signals and Power. maintenance of signalling and electrical system drawings and documents. assist with the installation and maintenance of relay-based, electronic and computer-based signalling systems. performing design modification work on relay-based, electronic and computer-based signalling systems as directed. undertaking investigations into incidents or accidents, and making recommendations which may require equipment modification, operational or policy changes. Safe and effective development, reviewing, modification and monitoring of signalling and electrical systems are achieved. All signalling system drawings and documents are updated. Projects are completed on time and within budget.

Technical Advice
Provide professional advice to staff, external organisations and contractors including: Translating complex technical principles and information into forms understood by clients without technical knowledge. Assist in designing complex systems and or verification of designs for external organisations. Provision of advice to Electronic Signal Tradespersons to facilitate first and second line maintenance of computerbased signalling systems, and complex electronic signalling equipment.

Qualifications Degree in Engineering enabling eligibility for corporate membership of the Institution of Engineers, Australia (E) Graduate Certificate, Diploma or Master in Railway Signalling obtained through the CQU. (D) Associate or full member of the Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers (IRSE). (D) Class C Drivers Licence. (E) Electrical Workers Licence. (D)

Relevant Knowledge & Experience Knowledge of railway signalling principles, signalling design and applications. (E) Knowledge of project management practices and contract and tendering conditions. (D) Knowledge of project scheduling software, project reporting system, General Ledger, spreadsheets, word processor and database software. (D) Experience in AUTOCAD or equivalent computer aided drafting packages. (D) Extensive engineering experience in the field of electrical/electronic systems. (D) TransAdelaide Trackforce Rules and ARTC Code of Practice. (D) Experience in compiling project management estimates. (E) Knowledge of ISO 9000 Quality Systems.
