Principles are general rules and guidelines5 intended to 6e enduring and seldom amended5 that in4orm and support the way in which an organization sets a6out 4ul4illing its mission. 7n their turn5 principles may 6e 8ust one element in a structured set o4 ideas that collectively de4ine and guide the organization5 4rom values through to actions and results. 7t may 6e that the Architecture Principles are documented using a wi3i or as an intranet rather than a text9 6ased document. Even 6etter would 6e to use a licensed T-.A/ tool that captures this output. This document shows :typical; contents o4 the Architecture Principles and can 6e adapted to align with any T-.A/ adaptation 6eing implemented.

5 Principles Template
Each principle will 4ollow the template 6elow. The template can 6e adapted to align with any T-.A/ adaptation 6eing implemented. The <ame should 6oth represent the essence o4 the rule as well as 6e easy to remem6er. Speci4ic technology plat4orms should not 6e mentioned in the <ame or Statement o4 a principle. Avoid am6iguous words in the <ame and Statement such as= :support;5 :open;5 :consider;5 and the word :avoid; itsel4. (e care4ul with :manage>ment?;5 and loo3 4or unnecessary ad8ectives and adver6s >4lu44?.
Name Statement <Name of Principle> The Statement should succinctly and unam6iguously communicate the 4undamental rule. /or the most part5 the principles statements 4or managing in4ormation are similar 4rom one organization to the next. 7t is vital that the principles statement 6e unam6iguous. The @ationale should highlight the 6usiness 6ene4its o4 adhering to the principle5 using 6usiness terminology. Point to the similarity o4 in4ormation and technology principles to the principles governing 6usiness operations. Also descri6e the relationship to other principles5 and the intentions regarding a 6alanced interpretation. *escri6e situations where one principle would 6e given precedence or carry more weight than another 4or ma3ing a decision. The 7mplications should highlight the reAuirements5 6oth 4or the 6usiness and 7T5 4or carrying out the principle B in terms o4 resources5 costs5 and activitiesCtas3s. 7t will o4ten 6e apparent that current systems5 standards5 or practices would 6e incongruent with the principle upon adoption.
