Shooting Dogs, 2006 Shooting Dogs is by far one of the most powerful, emotive and poignant films of 2006.

Following the true story of the mass genocide of over 800,000 utsis in !wanda in "##$, the film is a star% reminder of how callous humans can be to one another. Director, &ichael 'aton()ones perfectly captures the essence of the screenplay *David +olstencroft,. -e evo%es a mi.ture of empathy, sadness and anger at the plight of these abandoned !wandans. /.ceptionally powerful performances from )ohn -urt as Father 'hristopher and -ugh Dancy as )oe provide the only element of humanity in an otherwise dar% and graphic depiction of the events of "##$. 0t disgusts me that 01m part of a society that condones the slaughter of fellow human beings2 the fact that the 345,1 our 3peace%eepers1, our representatives stood by and watched these horrors occur and then at the crucial moment deserted the defenceless people says a lot about the state of our world. +e aided those murders. +e are as guilty as the -utus. he 45 is a 6o%e, as is our 7overnment, as is every 7overnment that watched the events unfold from the comfort of their &iddle 4pper 'lass Sofas. 0 am as guilty as you. 0 am so ignorant, that this film was my introduction to the politics in !wanda. 0 am ashamed of this. 8ut now 0 am aware of it and will research further, than%s to the medium of film. 9nd it has left me incensed at our behaviour. 9nd by 3our1 0 mean the civilised world. 0f this is the intended effect of Shooting Dogs, then 0 applaud the director. -e has created an unimaginable reality, with the help and advice of crew members who lost family and in some cases, narrowly escaped death themselves. 0t is handled so sensitively, 0 guarantee you will bawl your eyes out.
