Reflective Analysis of Portfolio Artifact Rationale/Reflection NAEYC Standard:

STANDARD 4. USING DEVELOPMENTALLY EFFECTIVE APPROACHES Candidates prepared in early childhood degree programs understand that teaching and learning with young children is a complex enterprise, and its details vary depending on childrens ages, characteristics, and the settings within which teaching and learning occur. They understand and use positive relationships and supportive interactions as the foundation for their work with young children and families. Candidates know, understand, and use a wide array of developmentally appropriate approaches, instructional strategies, and tools to connect with children and families and positively influence each childs development and learning. Brief Description of Evidence:

This is an example of a lesson plan I developed and implemented in my classroom. This curriculum describes what types of activities will be implemented and what types of activity it is. This is one way to keep parents informed of what their children are learning each day.

Analysis of What I Learned:

Through developing and implementing this lesson plan, I learned that it is very important to be flexible with working with young children. Many times what you plan for the day, is not what you end up doing. You have to be willing to do what is interesting to the children in your classroom. It is also a good way to keep parents informed and up to date with what you are doing in your classroom.

How This Artifact Demonstrates my Competence on the NAEYC Standard:

This project shows that I am competent in creating and implementing lesson plans in the classroom. I plan our activities around what the children are interested in and want to learn about. I use this as a tool to connect with children and families to positively influence the childs learning and development.
