2013 Student Composition Competition

Information
The TSO is seeking original student compositions, of 2 minutes duration, inspired by the
theme Halloween. The work must be written for string orchestra in five parts with no division
of parts (violin 1, violin 2, viola, cello, double bass). The selected composition may be
performed by the string section of the TSO.

Entries due by 5.00pm Monday 19 August 2013

Entry Criteria and Submission details:

Open to Tasmanian students in Grades 10 to 12 only.
The composition must be for string orchestra (check range and capabilities of the
instruments carefully).
The work is to be inspired by the theme Halloween.
Maximum duration 2 minutes.
Submit one legible A4 copy of score and parts (hand-written or computer generated).
To demonstrate development of musical ideas please submit hand-written
plans/drafts/sketches.
If available, submit a recording of the work on CD, DVD, audio cassette or video.
Submit a completed 2013 Student Composition Competition Entry Form.
The TSO reserves the right to perform this work again in the future.
Post entries with all completed material addressed to Kate Gray at Tasmanian
Symphony Orchestra, GPO Box 1450, Hobart, TAS 7001.
Results will be issued in writing by Monday 9 September 2013.
