Single Subject Lesson Plan

Name: Rebecca Dickmann Subject: Math Lesson: 3D Shapes Grade: Kindergarten Setting: Face-to-face classroom

Standards Addressed: Common Core Standards, Kindergarten Geometry: K.G.2. and K.G.3. (see bottom for explanation). NETS. Lesson Objective: Each student should Be able to identify 3D shapes; cube, cone, cylinder, and sphere Measurement: Each student will be assigned a group in which they will build a cone a cylinder and a cube. Each group will then present their work to the class and will be graded on: Did they complete the 3D shapes? Are the shapes easy to recognize? For the remaining shape, the sphere, they will have to identify three objects in everyday life that assume this shape, e.g. a ball, a planet, the sun, eyes, etc. They will receive credit for: Identifying at least three spheres creativity Activities: Define each shape and watch the corresponding movie Build the cube, cylinder, and cone (instruction audio ..\..\..\Desktop\Sound file for 3d shape building exercise.mp3) Identify three objects that assume the shape of a sphere. (To help them visualize this shape bring in some bubbles for them to blow and some grapes or oranges for them to eat.) All videos will need to be approved by the school. Adapting for multiple learning styles: One way to bring in more of a kinesthetic learning style would be to bring in some hands on 3D shapes. Also implementing some more technology would be something that would help students to stay focused. For visually impaired use more sound based videos and explain the concepts out loud. For hearing impaired use more hands on and pictures to help explain the concepts. Common Core standards:
K.G.2. Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size. K.G.3. Identify shapes as two-dimensional (lying in a plane, "flat") or three-dimensional ("solid"). Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. b. Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources Cited from: ..\..\NAEYC_Standards.docx For Teachers: I. TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS Teachers demonstrate a sound understanding of technology operations and concepts. Teachers: A. demonstrate introductory knowledge, skills, and understanding of concepts related to technology (as described in the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Students).
