“Red Eyes” and Lakota Woman Questions

I’m not quite sure if I understood the assignment, but I think that the questions I have put

together fall under the University Studies Goal of “Communication” and possibly even “Inquiry

and Critical Thinking”. I came up with the questions after going through both “Red Eyes” from

Lies My Teacher Told Me and “Lakota Woman”, just by trying to ask a basic question that can

be discussed more in depth (possibly). I will say that right now I was only able to get a hold of

my group partner twice, before I couldn’t any longer. So a lot of the discussions about these

questions didn’t happen. Again, my strategy for coming up with the questions was to pick out

something somewhat basic that can be discussed more in depth, which might also prompt other

questions during the discussion.

1) How is predjudice depicted in both Lakota Woman and "Red Eyes"? How is it

described? Are there any specific events in which predjudice has been a key factor in the

event? Is there a word, that relates to predjudice of Native Americans?

2) Though textbooks, as mentioned in Red Eyes, mentions wars in which Native Americans

have fought in, it also mentions that "wars" reverberated through our culture. What does

this mean? Does this happen in Lakota Woman somewhere?

3) In "Red Eyes", it mentions that we try to "Europeanize" Native Americans. What does

this mean? What does it entail? How does this attempt at "transforming" Native

Americans take place in Lakota Woman (or does it even take place?)
