VT-ILEHP LEND Legislative Day On February 13th, 2014, eight VT LEND Fellows/Trainees and five faculty spent the

day at the Vermont State House meeting with legislators, hearing testimony and viewing the floor debates in both the state Senate and House. Prior to the day, each Fellow/Trainee researched bills that had been introduced and contacted their legislators to arrange for an in-person meeting. Some were veterans and knew their legislators well and for others this was a completely new experience. The day was initiated by an in-depth training on advocacy by Deborah Lisi-Baker, veteran advocate on disability issues and Administrative Services Manager at the Center on Disability and Community Inclusion at the University of Vermont and Sheila Reed, Associate Director for Voices for Vermont's Children, also a veteran lobbyist. All who participated felt more comfortable with the legislative process and providing their expertise to law makers in the future.
