The purpose of this lab was to calibrate 5, 10, 25 mL volumetric transfer pipette, a 5 and 10 mL graduated transfer pipette and

a 25 mL burette with DI water at the temperature in the lab. Each piece of glassware was filled to the indicated volume, then transferred to a pre-weighed 100 mL beaker and was weigh again. From the mass in grams after the buoyancy was corrected, the volume was calculated with the density of water at the lab room temperature which was 2 whose density was The 5 mL volumetric pipette had an average delivered volume of 4.9667 mL with a correction of -0.0333 mL. Compared to the literature tolerance of class A pipettes of 0.01 mL, the value disagreed; all the other glassware calibrated also disagreed with the actual tolerance. The 10 and 25 mL volumetric pipette had an average of 9.98873 and 24.9422 mL with a correction of -0.0153 and -0.0778 mL. The 5 and 10 mL graduated transfer pipette had an average of 4.9513 and 9.8564 mL with a correction of -0.0487 and -0.143 mL. The 25 mL burette had an average of 4.9873 mL and a correction -0.02172 mL. There are possible sources of random error such as miscalculating the mass when weigh, touch the beaker causing it to be contaminated, or misreading the burette while trying to deliver water to the beaker. Also when releasing water from the pipette, the last drop could have been accidently push out. Also the water could have gotten into the bulb cause the beaker with water to weigh more than it should have been. Conclusion The calibration factors and average delivered volumes of the glassware are show below: 5 mL volumetric pipette: 4.9667 0.0014 mL/ 0.0333 mL 10 mL volumetric pipette: 9.9847 0.0025 mL/ mL 25 mL volumetric pipette: 24.9422 0.0003 mL/ 0.0778 mL 5 mL graduated transfer pipette: 4.9513 0.0024 mL/ mL 10 mL graduated transfer pipette: 9.8564 0.0026 mL/ 0.0143 mL 25 mL burette: 4.9783 0.3411 mL/ 0.02172 mL
