Cancer

Cancer is a destructive disease that is related to the cell cycle. Cancer cells play a very important roll in the formation of cancer. With different types of cancer comes different kinds of treatments for each type of cancer. Cancer cells form by having a defect in one of the many receptors in the cell. There're a few growth receptors on the surface of the cells, if one of them are invalid then cancer could start to form. If there is no negative reply from the cells around the cancerous mass, it will continue to divide. Cancer cells do not stop dividing, if the growth factors are all gone. Cancer cells don't require nutrients to grow, because of that they can infinitely grow, rather than stopping at checkpoints in a normal cell cycle (Unknown, 2014). When a cell starts to grow abnormally, cancer can start to form creating a tumor. When one cell dies 20 or more new cells are born and the place that they are growing in expands. All cancer is connected to the cell cycle this is the cycle of events that happen through the life of a cell. If the dead cells are not removed properly by the immune system, they start to build up into cancer. Being that the cancer cells grow rapidly and they use the immune system of the body, the cure for cancer can be in the interruption of cell growth and genetic switch of the immune system (Unknown, 2014). The most common type of cancer treatments are surgery, chemotherapy (chemo), and radiation therapy. Surgery is the first option only if the mass can be taken out of the body. In some cases only a part of the mass can be removed. Chemotherapy kills the cancer cells this can be given intravenously or by mouth. The drugs travel through the bloodstream, approaching the cancer cells that might of metastasized from the mass to other parts of the body. Radiation therapy uses high energy rays to kill cancer cells and shrink masses. Radiation is given externally or internally by radioactive materials put into the mass. There are several common

types of cancer, such as: 12.7% of breast cancer, 15.0% of lung cancer, 3.1% of leukemia, and 13.0% of prostate cancer. (Unknown, 2014). In summary of this essay I've informed you about how cancer cells are formed, the connection between cancer and the cell cycle, and the last paragraph informed you about different treatments for cancer.
