Dear Search Committee: I am writing to express my interest in applying for a teaching position on the elementary level. I am a graduate of Michigan State Universitys College of Education with a major in Elementary Education and focus in Language Arts. Additionally, I have an endorsement in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and a specialization in global education. As a member of a fiveyear teacher preparation program, I am currently finishing my year-long student teaching requirement in a kindergarten classroom with Chicago Public Schools. My experience within Chicago Public Schools has been an invaluable learning opportunity thus far. Throughout the year-long internship program, I had the opportunity to be the lead teacher in a classroom where I integrated my personal teaching style into lessons each day. I planned and taught creative, hands-on lessons and monitored student progress with authentic formative and summative assessments. Additionally, I ensured my students success by implementing a range of teaching strategies focused on accommodating each studen ts learning needs. Above all, I encouraged students to assume a very active responsibility for their own learning. These contributions had a very positive effect on my students in terms of both social and academic improvement. Because of my internship and education, I have become proficient at planning and teaching stimulating lessons by inserting real world examples in my teaching plans and balancing academic standards with my students interests. I believe that my enthusiasm, education, and experience combine to make me a viable candidate for an elementary teaching position.
