Kayla McLaughlin Guitar & Recorder February 10, 2013 Objective: To teach students how to play a low D, and

introduce the first two lines of Old McDonald Had a Farm to them. 1) Assume students know how to play B-A-G, review how to play an E (use peace sign analogy) 2) Show students the fingering for D. Ask them to show you how they hold a cup of tea (pinkies out) then have them to hold the recorder and play the new note, D. 3) Play a few sequences using just E and D have students practice using call and response method. 4) Introduce the first two measures of Old McDonald, then the third measure. Once they have mastered the parts separately, put them together. 5) Next have the students play the next phrase. Show them that measure 7 is the same as measure three. 6) Once they have both sections separately, see if the students can put both parts together to create the first two lines. 7) If there is extra time, have half of the group sing the words and half play the recorder, then have the groups switch!
