MICHAEL PORTERS ROLE TOWARDS STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT Michael porters plays a vital role in the field of strategic management following are the contribution of Michael porters towards strategic management Michael works have been generated and used by managers , business school & public policy makers including five forces analysis , value chain ,and the national diamond and industry innovation clusters. Michael porters states that broader applications of his analytical frameworks include non-profit organization strategy, national competitiveness, and regional economic development. Moreover, Porter's book "Competitive Strategy" has transformed strategic management in six ways, such as applying concepts of macroeconomics and industrial organization to business level strategy, and extending the analysis of competitive forces. HENRY MINTZBERG CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS STARTEGIC MANAGEMENT The author of 15 books, Mintzberg has made a great contribution towards strategic management following are the contribution of Henry Mintzberg towards strategic management Identifying the five types of organization

1. Simple structure 2. Machine bureaucracy 3. Professional bureaucracy 4. The divisionalized form 5. The adhocracy. He has also credited with advancing the idea of emergent strategy ( the idea is that effective strategy emerges from conversations within an organization rather than being imposed from on high). Mintzberg is a long time critic of traditional MBA programs. His first book, The Nature of Managerial Work challenged the established thinking about the role of the manager, and is one of the few books that actually examine what managers do, rather than discussing what they should do.

WHOSE CONTRIBUTION IS MORE SIGNIFICANT although Michael porters & Henry mintzberg both have played a vital role towards strategic management but in my opinion porters work is more significant towards strategic management. porters five forces are very relevant for an organization if they wanted to know what kind of threat they can have in the industry.
