REFLECTIONS ON WIKIPEDIA

At first I found Wikipedia very confusing but was able to understand the concept of a sandbox and start using the sandbox. Wikipedia had a number of policies and guidelines. The policies and guidelines were developed by the wiki community to describe best practice, clarify principles, resolve conflicts, and otherwise further our goal of creating a free, reliable encyclopedia. They pointed out that there is no need to read any policy or guideline pages to start editing. There five principles identified by Wikipedia which I found very interesting: 1. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia: It combines many features of general and specialized encyclopedias, almanacs, and gazetteers. Wikipedia is not a soapbox, an advertising platform, a vanity press, an experiment in anarchy or democracy, an indiscriminate collection of information, or a web directory. It is not a dictionary, a newspaper, or a collection of source documents, although some of its fellow 2. Wikipedia is written from a neutral point of view. 3. Wikipedia is free content that anyone can edit, use, modify, and distribute 4. Editors should treat each other with respect and civility. 5. Wikipedia does not have firm rules I gather the information, placed it in subsections posted the content but it was not published. I will attempt again at a later time.

REFLECTIONS ON GATHERING INFORMATION ON THEORIST

This was quite a challenge because of my late start and to find someone which was not used already and who did not exist in Wikipedia. I slated my search towards educational technology since information system is my background. I found Dr. Dave Jonassen very interesting especially his educational background. His first degree was in business then branched out to elementary education then educational media and philosophy. After his PhD he went on to computer science, statistics and philosophy. He crossed disciplines and yet able to merge them all in his research and teachings.
I will definitely read more of his work and try in a very small way to emulate his professional life.
