9 - Meet My Family Content Standards: 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 Learning Standards: 2.1.2 Able to recognise and articulate initial, medial and the final sounds in single syllable words within given context: (a), (b), (c) 2.1.3 Able to blend two to four phonemes into recognizable words and read them aloud. 2.1.4 Able to segment words into phonemes to spell. 2.2.3 Able to read and understand sentences (3-5 words) in linear and non-linear texts with guidance. 2.3.1 Able to read simple texts with guidance: a) fiction Objectives: By the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to: a. Articulate initial, medial and the final sounds in single syllable words within given context. b. Blend two to four phonemes into recognizable words and read them aloud. c. Segment words into phonemes to spell. d. Read sentences (3-5 words) in linear text with correct pronunciation. e. Read a simple fiction with correct pronunciation. Cross-curricular elements: Musical, verbal linguistic and kinesthetic. Teaching aids : LCD, desktop, PowerPoint, I Love My Family song, PowerPoint slides of A Magic Map story, letter cards, pictures, sentence strips, mahjong paper, glue and activity books. Steps: Set Induction 1. Teacher asks pupils to sing I Love My Family song with actions.

Activities 1. Divide pupils into six groups. Paste the picture on the board and segment the word into phonemes. Pupils compete to form the words on the board and say the word. The group which finish first receives points. 2. Teacher displays the story of A Magic Map using PowerPoint slides. Pupils read the story silently. Teacher reads the story and pupils repeat after the teacher. Pupils take turn to read the story with guidance. 3. Distribute envelopes of the jumbled up pictures and sentence strips. In groups, pupils number the pictures and sentences correctly. Pupils paste the pictures and sentences on a mahjong paper. A pupil from each group reads aloud the sentences. Reflection:
