Allele
A certain gene that codes for different traits

Homologous
Homo- same logous- proportion Def.- near identical chromosomes

gene
Def. codes for genetic diseases how your body will form and your traits that will show as you develop

genotype
Gene- to be produced Def- the possible traits that can be produced

mutation
Mut- change ation- the act of Mutation- the act of change Def- a physical cut in the DNA in a section or a mistake while copying the DNA

pedigree
Ped- children Def.-shows how traits are passed down EX: trait for sickle cell

Phenotype
Phen- shows EX: eye color, size of shoe, color of hair Genotype determines phenotype Definition: Phenotypes are traits that can be seen with the naked eye

recessive
The trait that isnt shown Ex: sickle cell anemia Recessive does not mean rare

dominant
Def: a trait that more often is shown if the gene is present Ex: six fingers, dwarfism, brown eyes, dark hair Does not mean common

Telemore
Def. a part of a nucleotide sequence that protects chromosomes from deteriorating
