Homework Response 3 I have decided to study the land of Middle Earth for my project.

The Lord of the Ring series will be my figured world and I plan to observe the magical characters within the story. Based off of the JRR Tolkien novels, the movies are internationally renowned and have a strong fan following. Although I have read the books, I will focus on the cinematic view presented by the director of Lord of the Rings series, Peter Jackson. The environment in Lord of the Rings is a violent war against the dark Lord Sauron and the inhabitants of Middle Earth. The different races and creatures of the land unite and fight the growing threat from Mordor. The story follows the journey of a young hobbit, Frodo Baggins, and his companions trying to protect Middle Earth and destroy the one ring to rule them all. Multiple storylines emerge and bloody battles against orcs or conversations with trees, excuse me, Ents, is not uncommon. The movies are also about dedicated friendship and love that transcends death. From the Shire to the Kingdom of Gondor all of Middle Earth is a battlefield, with celebrations celebrating victories and funerals commemorating the unfortunate who perished. Fighting and an extensive use of weaponry would be considered a necessary behavior considering that war has descended upon the land. Traveling for long periods of time, capturing creatures or avoiding being captured, forming alliances, leading entire populations to safety, and planning invasions are all common place. Also magic occurs frequently because there are two important wizards, elves that possess healing power, and a magical golden ring. Inappropriate behaviors may include ignoring someones call for help, lacking bravery or honor, and trying to take the ring for ones self. Because there are few technological advancements during this time communication is difficult and is done by letter, word of mouth (directly or indirectly), the lighting of fire signals, and spells spoken to moths. The discourse communities you would expect to find in Lord of the Rings can be divided between races. Such as, elves, dwarves, hobbits, wizards and orcs. In the movie a stereotype for each race is revealed by jokes and simple observation, however, there are also characters who are more comical or serious.
